Folktales for the 21st Century Storytelling Programs

 

"Treasures of the Heart" - Multi-cultural stories of children and animal characters in folklore/literature celebrating things that children and families treasure all over the world. The Stories celebrate friends, teachers, grandparents, food, stories, the environment and the unique dreams and important things we hold dear in our lives and in our hearts. LuAnn's most requested School Assembly Program. Three Programs available: K-2 grades, 3-4th grades ,K-3rd grades.
"Children of Courage" - What makes a person brave? How do you develop character? An inspiring true story from the Civil War featuring the courage, bravery and friendship between 2 boys, a tale of a young Irish girl who outwits bullies who torment her, and a folktale from Zimbabwe about a blind boy who rights a wrong that is done to him. LuAnn's most requested program for 3-5th grades and middle school audiences 6th-8th grades. Two Programs available: 3rd-5th grades , 6th -8th grades.
"Why the Sky is Far Away & other Stories To Celebrate the Earth" - Multi-cultural stories celebrating the relationship between people, animals and the amazing world that we share. Featuring Native American folklore and stories from the Rain Forests about respecting and saving our resources and world. Great for Earth Day/Ocean Day Celebrations. Two programs available: K-2nd grades, K-4th grades.
"Celebratin' Children!" - A rollicking collection of folktales and true stories of delightful and inspiring 'can-do' kids. Travel in story to Haiti, Japan and Africa and meet remarkable young people who with ingenuity and courage overcome their obstacles and help each other, while joyfully discovering who they are, what they can do and who they can be. Children are encouraged to create their own 'links of love' and share kindness (smiles, hugs, friendship) or acts of kindness in their community or share love with children in other parts of the world. . Three programs available: K-2nd grade, 3rd-5th grades, K-4th grades.
"Jaws, Paws & Claws! - Animal Wisdom Tales From Around the World" - Crocodiles, Tigers & Bears and more! Animals in folklore talk, and teach us through their stories, the wisdom ancient peoples wished to pass to their listeners about how day came to follow night, how to resolve conflicts peacefully, and how the animals can teach human beings about appreciating one another. Three programs available: K-2nd grade, 3-5th grades, K-4th grades.

"The Mouse that Barked & other Tales of Good Deeds & Second Chances" "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again!" Folklore, like life, is full of folks who stumble, fall, rise up and re-determine - wiser with the opportunity for a second chance. (Add a pinch of gratitude or a good deed and early misfortune may lead to fortune!) Join LuAnn Adams in story and travel to Africa, Asia and the Americas and meet plucky characters who, with hope, tenacity and 'never giving up' spirit, transform their obstacles into 'do-over' opportunities! Stories give us the chance to refresh, reboot and rethink. When we give or receive a second chance, a lovely kindness is shared and the gift of a new possibility is created. Two programs available: K-2nd grade, K-4th grades.

"THINKING BIG: Tales of Dreamers & Doers" - Martin Luther King had one. Aliquipiso had one and ingeniously rescued her tribe. Brer Rabbit had so many that they ricocheted off every critter he met! History, legend and folklore are full of Big Thinkers with inspiring dreams. Join LuAnn Adams and travel in story to Africa, Asia and the Americas. Meet spunky young rainmakers and unabashed dreamers, who 'pushed the envelope' and 'broke the mold' with their intrepid ideas, can-do attitude and never-give-up spirit. Two programs available: K-2nd, K-4th grades.

"Tales From Dr. Seuss!" -Rollicking tales from that wonderful author Dr. Seuss! The program includes: "Green Eggs and Ham", "The Cat in the Hat", "Horton Hatches An Egg" and "Yertle the Turtle" all brought 'to life' with props, puppets and lots of audience participation. Program for K-2nd grades and Family Literature & Storytelling Events/PARP Programs.

Folktale Residencies - For K-6th Grades. For K-3rd -Porquoi Animal Folktale Residency: consists of 1 planning meeting + 10 weekly 45 min. classroom sessions. During residency: students create, write and perform original animal folktales (with realistic animal puppets provided by LuAnn.) DVD of final day performances is given to school. For 3rd-6th Grades - Personal Story Workshop: includes 1 teacher workshop, school assembly, 90 minute workshop.

Sharing Personal Stories Residency - For 6th Grades. Students attend "Children of Courage" Assembly Program and are given assignment to 'mine' a true story from their life (centered on an extreme experience with one of the following emotions - "Saddest", "Proudest", "Kindest", "Naughtiest", "Most Frightening", "Funniest", etc.) This is a story where each student has discovered, from that experience, something about 'life' that they never knew before. Students must write their stories and can bring photos/props if they wish. Sharing with their class in a 90 minute session is optional, but encouraged.

**Residencies can be also be designed on school request. Fees available upon request.

Teacher Workshops/Master Classes - "Weaving the Senses Into the Story - Literacy & the Arts." Workshop - Lecture/Demo with participants creating and telling stories utilizing presented techniques and their own classroom learning concepts.

Master Classes/Individual Coaching : information available on request.

LuAnn is a "Sole Provider of Services/Vendor" with the NYC Department of Education.
NYC Public Schools may book assemblies and residencies on line at the NYC DOE website.

** Each school program is accompanyed by Study guide with Storytelling Activities, Discussion Questions, Story Outlines and Bibliography.

***If two programs are booked back-to-back, one of my award-winning recordings; "Brave Little Red & other Tales","The Tricky Caterpillar & other Tales", "Jaws, Paws & Claws - Animal Wisdom Tales" or "Tipingee, Brer Rabbit & the Mouse that Barked" will be given to the School.

** School Assembly programs (45-50 minutes in length) are $350.00 each and recommended for preferably 200 children, seated on the floor. If full payment is received the day of the performance, 2 Back-to-back Assemblies are $600.
** School Assembly Programs booked through BOCES are $375 per performance.
** Family Literature Nights are $375.00, and recommended for up to 250 people.
** R/T transportation will be added to the total fee.
